Simona crushes Anisimova in Roland Garros rematch
Top seed Simona Halep avenged her defeat to Amanda Anisimova in the quarter-finals last year by crushing the American teen 6-0, 6-1 in the third round on Friday in a mere 54 minutes.
Halep dedicated the win to her coach Darren Cahill, who turned 55 on Friday, and has now stretched her ongoing career-best winning streak to 17 victories in a row.
The 29-year-old Romanian committed just seven unforced errors throughout the match and broke her opponent’s serve six times.
I think I played a really good match. I was very aggressive. I knew from last year I had to change something, so I really wanted to be better than last year and definitely I was today.
said the world No.2.
I’m really happy I could win today, it’s a gift for Darren, because it’s his birthday today, so Happy Birthday, Darren.
It’s nice to win matches here at Roland-Garros and I’m really enjoying my time.
